Testimonial
Camp Motorsport was brand new this year
so providing a quality staff training was
critical.
Greg came in for
2 days and he was fantastic. His ideas,
teaching methods, and training material worked
wonders with my new staff.
As soon as the
campers arrived you could see just how much the
staff learned because they were focused and well
prepared. It was great watching the staff
implement innovative ways to work with the
campers.
Even hard to plan
transition times were fun because of some games
Greg taught them. He has a list of training
options to choose from and was happy to design
some custom theme related racing workshops.
2007 was so successful I have already talked to
him about coming back this year.

Corporate
Training
Whether you are implementing new programs or refreshing
old ones, it is extremely effective to train staff
through the use of creative information sharing. In
addition to custom workshops and specialized training,
you may want to consider introducing interactive
learning as a part of special functions. GCTS will help
you create staff trainings, interpret new programs,
facilitate team building, build trust, design
orientations, and achieve staff goals.
For
training done in traditional settings, you can choose a
topic or topics from a list of pre-designed workshops or you can request one of your own. If the
subject on which matter you need training on does not appear in
the list, simply contact me to discuss custom
workshops.
If
you have the ability to travel and you would like your
training done using a ropes and initiatives course, or
you want an adventure activity to be included, please
contact me for off-site training options. It is very
common for corporations to want half-day
workshop/half-day adventure, or half-day team
building/half-day keynote with breakout sessions.

Camp, Youth, Retreat Center Services-
Defining Your Organization
With more than 30 years in the camping business as a
camper, counselor, specialist, director, section board
member, National Board Member, and consultant, Greg will
help you to define the essential elements in your camp
program or retreat center. Each aspect will be
discussed and evaluated to determine whether they
support the organization’s mission. Every program has
the opportunity to design what it offers based on
geographic location, natural resources, size, client
expectations, and staffing. Since each facility is
unique, every effort should be made to capitalize on the
specific elements which make up its core curriculum.
This service is beneficial to programs that are
expanding, just starting, or going through change.
Staff Orientation Pre-Camp
Each year, camp leaders agonize over the difficulties of
presenting a thorough pre-camp orientation (some
call it staff training). A quality orientation
incorporates all the elements necessary to get camp up
and running on day one. This includes everything from
learning traditional procedures, to cabin assignments,
to staff bonding. Greg’s interactive training
techniques are insightful, practical, and effective.
You can choose to have him come for one day or
multiple days depending on your training needs. While
there, he will work with your staff on a variety of
specific topics (insert workshop page here) from general
procedures to skill development.
During the Season Staff Trainings
Many camps want staff trainings to be conducted after
camp begins. This innovative thinking is extremely
effective for a lot of programs who need reminders one
or two weeks into the season. After the kids arrive is
when the real staff training begins so it is often more
beneficial for staff to work on counselor or youth
development skills (insert workshop training list here)
after they have some basis for comparison. For
increased application of the staff’s ability to
demonstrate skills learned on pre-camp orientation to
everyday use, many camps combine Greg’s orientation
visit with additional scheduled workshops in late June
or early July.
Counselor-in-Training/Leaders in Training
If you have campers who are too old to be regular
campers but do not have the qualifications to be regular
staff, you may want to consider creating or revamping a
leadership development program. This program provides a
critical link between campers and staff by allowing
young people the opportunity to develop the necessary
skills required for position advancement. If you are
interested in this type of program, GCTS can help you
with goals, staffing requirements, curriculum
development, program implementation, or evaluation.
Programming
In addition to determining core activities, successful
camps and retreat centers have pre-planned activities
for special occasions like rainy days, days which are
too hot, special event days, ceremonies, assemblies,
transition times, meals, nights off, overnights, etc.
Greg will help you to determine which activities are
applicable to your situation and how they should be
implemented. These discussions are wonderful for middle
management, program directors, or off-season supervisor
meetings.
Accreditation
Are you about to go through the American Camp
Association (ACA) accreditation process or are you
thinking about becoming accredited? Greg is a current
standards visitor and former camp director who has been
through the process more than 40 times. He will help
you develop written documentation, conduct a site
inspection, or organize general information. Successful
visits require a lot of written documentation which
address specific questions as outlined in the standards.
To become accredited, your camp must meet ACA
eligibility requirements and go through the 5-step visit
preparation process. Please allow at least four months to
complete this process.

Team Building
Greg is a skilled facilitator with more than 25 years of
team building experience. During that time he has
worked with groups as small as eight and as large as
three hundred.
Effective team building requires participants go through
a progression of skills which are modified in accordance
to group size, age, ability, and goals. Workshops are
normally a half-day, full day, or multiple days,
depending on the organization’s needs. Quality team
building produces amazing results and can be used by
itself or in conjunction with other training models.
Many organizations request a portable team building
option, which can be done on or in your facility. If
you have the ability to travel or you are based in the
Washington DC/Baltimore area you can opt for conducting
your team building on a local ropes course.

Adventure Activities
To Book a Trip Through GCTS
Greg is a registered raft guide with 30 years of
training and trip leading experience. While on the
river he goes by the nickname of “Moose.” If you are
interested in going on a trip and you want Moose as a
guide, email GCTS as soon as you know your trip dates so
we can discuss river options. You can choose flat water
or whitewater trips with rapids ranging anywhere from
Class I (the easiest) to Class V (the hardest).
Whitewater or Flat Water Guide Training
If you are an outfitter, camp, or organization who runs
flat or moving water trips, proper guide training is an
essential part of quality organizational development. .
Because all companies are different in scope and
purpose, each training Greg “Moose” conducts will
require some custom elements mixed with some
fundamental essentials. The time required for skill
development will vary with the staff’s experience and
the chosen body of water. Organizations must have
everything required to successfully run the trips prior
to my arrival. Universal to all trainings will be:
safety, client
interaction, proper care of equipment,
terminology, understanding the resource, skills, and
information specific to your location.
Backpacking/ Camping
Greg is an Outdoor Living Skills Instructor and former
Wilderness Instructor who has been teaching camping and
hiking fundamentals for more than 30 years. As an
avid hiker, he has been on the Long Trail, the Santa Fe
Trail, and completed over 1,800 miles on the Appalachian
Trail. In addition to learning best practices, you will
be given information on “how to” for every phase of your
experience. If your organization wants to turn this
training into a day long interactive learning
experience, you can choose a self-guided discovery
option which will maximize participant skill retention.
